Tilburn

A dialectually transposed spelling of a locational name which was originally either Tyburn, Tillingbourne or Tilbury, although the meanings are similar and derive from the Olde English personal name 'Till'. This name itself derives from 'Teal' (The Bird) or as a version of 'Matilda', the pre 7th Century female name which means 'The Mighty Battlemaid'! It is our opinion that the origination is from Tilbury as recorded below.
