Tibbetts

This interesting name is a dialectual variant of the learned form, (recreated from the French 'Theobald'), of the common medieval given name 'Tebald' or 'Tibalt' itself from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements, 'peudo', people, race, and 'bald' bold or brave. Tibb was a medieval nickname used for both men and women, and Tibbetts means 'son of Tibb', from the French 'petit', (tibb-(pet)it), meaning little.
