Stribbling
This interesting name derives from the medieval English 'stryplynge' meaning a youth, and was probably originally given as a nickname to one of youthful appearance. The name is first recorded in the late 13th century as Stipling and Strupelynge. In the modern idiom the name has four spelling variations: Stripling, Strippling, Stribling and Stribbling The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Symon Stripling which was dated 1259, in the Court Rolls of the Abbey of Ramsey - Huntingdon during the reign of King Henry 111, known as the Frenchman, 1216-1272 Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
