This is an interesting name of German origin and derives from the personal name "Liebrecht", a dialectual variant of "Liudberct" meaning people, bright. The German for "loving, affectionate" is "Liebreich", and it is possibly a variant of this word and would have been used as a nickname surname. This name is listed in the Dictionary of American Family names, so presumably as least one family of this name emigrated to America. There are only three entries of this name in London Records and they are the births of three sons of Henry and Sarah Liebrecht, twins Henry and John Daniel on 26 May 1816 and Ebenerzer on 13 March 1825 all christened at Bethnal Green. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Henry Liebrecht, which was dated 1816, St. Matthews, Bethnal Green, during the reign of King George III, "Farmer George", 1760 - 1820. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
