Beadon
This is a heraldic or armigerous surname from the west county of England a Coat of Arms being granted to the Beadons of Gotten House, Somerset. The name is locational and probably developed form of the Olde English 'Bucge - dun', (the hill of Bucge), the latter being an ancient female name, found in many parts of Britain. There are a number of modern surnames which have a similar origin, these include name recordings include Bowen, Baydon, Boyden and Biden. The name recordings include - William Beadon of Combe Florey, Somerset married on October 10th 1588 in the year of the Spainish Armada, and Edith Beadon who married a Richard Hodges at St. Peters Church, Taunton on January 23rd 1760 . The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Jane Beadon, (parents not recorded). which was dated 1557, christened on the 30th October at Wordbury Church, near Exeter, Devon, during the reign of Queen Mary, 'Bloody Mary', 1554 - 1558. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
