Tomenson

This is a double diminutive or patronymic surname which derives from the original aramaic personal name 'Thomas' meaning 'the twin'. Thomas was a Norman baptismal name introduced after 1066, the surname development being in the 13th Century, Walter Thomas being recorded in the Pipe Rolls of Warwickshire in 1275 A.D.. The modern spellings of the double patronymic include Tominson, Tomenson, Tomerson, Taminson etc. and all have the same translation of the son (in) of the son (son) of Thomas (Tom), the name recording include Martha Tominson who married James Hunt at St. Mary on the Hill, London in 1752 whilst Roger Tomason held land in Barbadoes in 1679. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Thomas Taminson, which was dated 1690, Witness at St. James Church, Clerkenwell, during the reign of King William III of Orange and England, 1689 - 1702.
