Sachno

Sachno
This is one of the many variant spellings of either the Olde Pre Roman German regional and tribal name 'Saxony' but originally spelt 'Sachen' and as also found in Anglo-Saxon, or it is a medieval metonymic job descriptive for 'a sack or bag maker'. In the first case the word 'sachen' means a particular type of knife carried by the early warriors. The description of the knife becoming first the tribal name 'Saxon' and later the area 'Saxony'. In the second case the name was also found in Italy as 'Saccon' and the present spelling could be a corrupted variant transposition of a type common in England. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Wilhelm von Sachen which was dated C. 1680 the State of Hesse, Germany during the reign of Emperor Leopold 1 the Holy Roman Empire 1668-1705 Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
