Kibblewhite

This very unusual name is medieval job descriptive and derives from the Olde English "Cybbel" meaning a "Cudgell" and "Wyhta" a Joiner or Carpenter i.e. A maker of Clubs. These "Clubs" were popular forms of Armament, being much cheaper than Swords or Lances and easier for the "peasants" to use without any excessive military training. The name variant recordings in London, appearing as John Keblewaite (1579), William Kyblewright (1627) and John Kiblewaite in 1729. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of John Kibblewhite which was dated 1523, Married Joan (surname not known) at St. Mary Aldermary, London . during the reign of King Henry VIII, "Good King Hal" 1510 - 1548. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax.
