Keemar
This is locational name which derives from the Olde English village of 'chemere' (now Keymer) in Sussex and is first recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book. The origination is from 'Cy-mere' which translates as 'the cattle meadow'. The surname development and variant spellings including, Richard Keymeyre (1604), Edward Keimar (1622), Mary Keamor (1651), whilst Mary Keemar was baptised at St. Martins in the Field on July 1st, 1684. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Elizabeth Kemer. which was dated 1584 Married Robert Hatton at St. Margaret's, London. during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I 'Good Queen Bess' 1558-1603. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
