Hebbron

This unusual name is Anglo - Saxon in origin, and is a locational surname deriving from the place called "Herbron" in Northumberland. The placename is recorded as "Heburn" in the Fees Court Rolls of the county in 1242, and as "Heborin" in 1262. The name "Hebron" shares it's meaning and derivation with the place called "Hebburn" in the neighbouring county of Durham; the meaning is "the high mound", derived from the Old English pre 7th Century "leah", hish, into "byrgen", mound, tumulus, especially burial mound, but in the case of "Hebron" the meaning is "hill"; Hebron Hill reaches 424 feet.
