This name is specifically associated with the Cambridge region although the reason is not obvious. The name is a form of metronymic and derives from the French 'Felicia', a name of Norman introduction, itself a derivative of Felicitas, the Roman Goddess of Good Luck. In this case the medieval derivative is 'Fye' - a shortened or nickname form of Felicity. Both Fyson and Fison are the recorded spellings from the 16th century although Feson is also recorded at Knapwell in 1618 and in 1605 at Milton with Fyson being found as Isleham in 1626. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Alice Fison. which was dated 1615 Married William King at Soham, Cambridge. during the reign of King James I of England and VI of Scotland 1603-1625.
